What is DGCA?

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is India’s aviation regulatory authority. It ensures safety, training standards, aircraft operations, and licensing compliance.

In simple words, DGCA sets the rules for aviation education and licensing in India.

Why DGCA Approval is Mandatory

DGCA approval ensures:

  • The institute follows CAR 147 guidelines
  • Students are eligible for DGCA module exams
  • Training meets international aviation safety standards
  • The certification is legally valid

Without DGCA approval, your AME training may be useless for licensing purposes.

Step-by-Step Process to Find DGCA Approved Institutes

Step 1: Visit the Official DGCA Website

The most reliable source is the official DGCA website:

Go to:

  • Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR)
  • CAR 147 Section
  • Approved AME Institutes List

This list is updated regularly.

Never rely only on college brochures.

Step 2: Check CAR 147 Approved Institutes List

CAR 147 approval is mandatory for AME training institutes.

While checking the list, confirm:

  • Institute name
  • Location
  • Approval number
  • Stream authorization (B1 or B2)

If the institute is not listed, it is not DGCA-approved.

Step 3: Verify Approval Validity

Even if an institute is listed, check:

  • Is the approval currently valid?
  • Has it been suspended?
  • Is it approved for your chosen stream?

Some institutes are approved only for specific categories.

Avoid Fake Advertising

Watch out for:

  • 100% placement guarantee
  • Unrealistic salary promises
  • “International certification” without proof

DGCA approval is the only authority that matters for licensing.
