1. Meet the Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification:
    Passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM), or a 3-year engineering diploma in a related field.
  • Age Limit:
    Generally 16–28 years at the time of admission (may vary slightly by institute).


2. Choose Your Course Type

There are several pathways in the field of aircraft engineering:

  • AME (Aircraft Maintenance Engineering):
    • Category B1 (Mechanical) – Focuses on engines, airframes, and mechanical systems.
    • Category B2 (Avionics) – Focuses on electrical, instrument, and radio systems.
  • Option to Pursue Dual Programs:
    • You can choose B.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering along with AME, depending on the institute. This dual program can enhance your theoretical knowledge (via B.Tech) and practical licensing skills (via AME).


3. Select a DGCA-Approved Institute

Make sure the institute is approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Govt. of India.

4. Apply for Admission

You can apply through:

  • Entrance Exams: Some institutes or organizations conduct common entrance tests (e.g.,SOACET, AME CET).
  • Direct Admission: Many institutes offer admission based on your 10+2 or diploma marks.


5. Attend Counseling or Interview (If Required)

Some institutes may conduct interviews or counseling rounds before confirming admission.


6. Submit Documents & Pay Fees

Documents typically needed:

  • 10th and 12th mark sheets or diploma certificate
  • Passport-size photographs
  • ID proof (Aadhar card, etc.)
  • Medical fitness certificate (as per DGCA norms)


7. Begin Training

  • AME course structure:
    • 2 years academic training
    • 1–2 years practical training (On-the-Job Training)

If you're pursuing B.Tech + AME, the structure is usually integrated over 4 years, with both academic and practical components embedded.
